Do you really need to spend a bomb to make your home light up with life?

Not really...
A dash of bright contrasting paint on a single wall can change the look of the room
A wall covered with muted wall paper in strips can add a classy look
A big mirror purchased at Dragon mart for just 200 dirhams can reflect prosperity
A tall standing lamp can highlight your drab corner
Old paintings can be given a makeover with impressive frames
Old rusty door knobs can be replaced with brighter shinier ones..

Do you really need to spend a bomb to make your home light up with life?
Not really....

Decorate your home with second-hand furniture. Ask friends and family if they have items they are not using. Take advantage of consignment resale shops, flea markets, yard sales and Craigslist. You may find something fabulous for a few dollars. Also, be sure to check freecycle, where you may be able to get something free. Perhaps it will need some paint, or maybe not. It might be perfect just as it is!

Host home parties to earn merchandise. This is a great way to get cheap home decor, such as candles or kitchenware ;-)

Frame your children's artwork or photos that you have taken and had enlarged, for cheap wall decor. Make frames yourself or buy them at yard sales or the dollar store. Remember that frames can be painted!

Think outside the frame for cheap wall decor. Do not limit yourself to something that will fit into a frame. Rugs, quilts, beautiful scarves, saris, shawls, hats, dishes, children's clothing can all become wall art.

Decorate with fresh flowers and/or herbs from your yard. Grow houseplants from cuttings you get from friends. Use bowls of fresh fruit, vegetables or pine cones.
    • 6
Use what you have on hand for table centerpieces. Let kids help with napkin rings, placecards and favors.
    • 7
Add drama to a bathroom or kitchen cabinets with decoupage. Glue cut outs from magazines, postcards, or old calendars to the wall and seal with more glue.

Light up your home!!

A high light becomes the highlight when it is as beautiful as this one...

5-6 Long hanging lights instead of a a regular bedroom light or a lamp look elegant specially if the ceiling is wooden...

Though this one may seem like a huge wheel of light overpowering everything else in this drawing room, it is certainly a unique idea!!

Make the pool table area even more attractive with a bunch of overhead conical lights that have both utility and aesthetic appeal..

The kitchen area rarely ever uses lights like these...but whoever said we cant experiment??

Side tables have character!! Spend some effort on them :-)

We hardly ever pay a lot of attention to side tables...they come AFTER the main furniture/upholstery/curtains/rugs etc etc...but check out these side tables that prompt you to think beyond the usual and help you create some dramatic effects with them..

A touch of chrome lends class....

The leggy white side table has a "mind" of its own....

The highlight of this bedroom decor is the 2 unmatched side tables...whoever thought we cud have 2 different side tables on either side of the bed? Though my sister thinks its a great idea considering how differently she and her husband make USE of those side tables....

The deep blue table looks chic and modern and seems to go perfectly well with the purple rug...Imagine the room without it and you'd see how much it lends to the decor...

Marble and wood...ALL side tables are mismatched..in color and in design, yet they blend well in this large but cosy living room...

My first Post

Hello everyone!

I am from UAE and have been helping out friends set up their homes for a long time now.
Creative homes just need a whole lot of IDEAS..not really that much of money and its been fun doing up homes on shoestring budgets...Homes that have raised oohs and aahs from admirers and had people wondering whether it was really that simple to change the way your home looks..

The weird thing is that although you find a lot of posts, articles and websites on "How to give your home a new look" etc, there was really nothing for bachelors and single people with modest budgets..

A splash of bright paint...A touch of wall paper....New upholstery or simply vivid coloured cushions to liven up the place...

It's just sad that people dont know what to do...and one cant really blame them, cause not everyone has the aptitude or the interst to do up their homes..But I have rarely come across anyone who doesnt want to LIVE in a beautifully done up home..

Ans so after years of persuasion by my friends, I have finally decided to give it a go!! I specialise in Living/dining areas/bars/wall decor.

So for all you people residing in the UAE, in homes that you dont know what to do with and with budgets not good enough to hire a professional interior designer, just get in touch with me on homebounduae@gmail.com

Cheers and hope you get homebound soon!
